We’ve been getting some good press lately. Our single in Filter 41, good reviews, etc. But I had a blast and talked with one half of the UK band Factory Kids for a rather interesting music blog. Check out the hilarious interview: girlssoldout.blogspot.com!
Until next time!
Your lover,
Jonathan
“Origami,” when it comes to CD, is going to have some very interesting (emphasize INTERESTING!) interior art with it. I can’t say too much yet, because we don’t want to give it away. What I can say is that we secretly developed a rather inventive story that coincides with a few panels of illustrations. It might involve making you color some things with crayons—and maybe get shipped with some crayons too? And it might make a weird statement about atomic warfare? And it might be really interesting and weird. And we can’t wait for you to see it!
So, a lot of you guys have been asking for us to post the lyrics to the new record. We were kind of apprehensive to at first because lyrics are only part of the equation that makes up the album… but we thought it was a pretty good idea after a while. So just click the link, and walllaaa! Complete words to the record!
PS: remember, the record is free at www.thevelcroleaves.com! And tell your friends!

We did a photo-shoot with a friend of ours the other day in some swamps and in this old plantation house that was rather dangerous. I guess “No Trespassing” signs exist for a reason.
It has been really hot in our end of Maryland, lately. And we’ve been sweating and stinky. Just the other day we spent a couple of days at Jane’s house rehearsing some new songs. We took a break and drank some Peace Teas (they’re cheap) and ate some spicy fries. We started talking about Peace tea—and how the hippie generation has kind of become a marketing point. Y’know—peace signs and all. Then we started talking about how the hippie movement kind of missed the point. Peace is good, and so is Peace Tea. But we cannot sit around and wait for other people to change society for us. What we do has to be meaningful—and we have to do it with all we’ve got. Doing something big is hard work. Peace, love, change—all these things can’t be left to politicians to mess with. I think we eventually came to a conclusion to our conversation between slurps and crunches. It was that the change kind of has to start with us. That this whole, beautiful idea of recreation… the recreation of all things… has to start with us. Instead of just dreaming about peace, we have to end the warfare in our lives. Instead of just dreaming about love, we have to start loving others more than ourselves. So we picked up our instruments, running our fingers through our sweaty hair, and started playing a few songs. I stopped right in the middle of a song and was quiet just for a second. I think I realized I need to work hard at peace and love in my own life. Because I think I’m a hypocrite.
FACTORY KIDS song “Love Destroys Everything” recreated, rerecorded, and re-imagined by Jonathan Shadel of The Velcro Leaves. So I spent the last month remixing one of my favorite indie bands from the UK—Factory Kids—song “Love Destroys Everything” from their forthcoming new record. This will be on a remix album they’re putting out. I cut up a few of their loops, but this is largely hand-played. I spent quite a bit of time with drum machines, the sampler, synthesizers, and me ol’ piano. Love it.
Hi, we’re The Velcro Leaves. Were an awesome indie rock/experimental pop/dramatic-something-hop band from a place you’ve probably never heard of, or care to for that matter. My name is Jonathan Shadel—which I probably told to all the stalkers reading this page. Which is kind of gross.
And yes… this is our brand new blog. We’ll be posting lots of stuff here from now on. This is like the super-natural, star-trekyish portal to all things, as the cool kids say, TVL. We’re going to do lots of things here—answer questions you’ve never thought to ask, post picies, send you some music, and put your kids to bed by telling them dirty jokes (kids love us for it).
So we’re a band that likes to make really cool music. And we’re pretty passionate about it. And none of these rambles could ever be in a press kit. But tell your friends about us—we reward our friends with free stuff like hershey kisses and hugs if you come to our shows (and dog bones if your friends are dogs—they like music too).
Your friend and enemy,
Jonathan of THE VELCRO LEAVES
